How much will my text to speech cost?
Fourier TTS costs ₹1.80 per 1,000 characters on both plans. They only differ in how many requests run at once.
How the estimate works
We work it out from the price list, by the character.
The API tells you how many characters it billed for each request, so one test with your own text shows how your words turn into characters.
characters = words × characters per word (when you count in words)
cost = characters × ₹1.80 ÷ 1,000, each request rounded up to the paisa
Business covers ₹50,000 ÷ ₹1.80 × 1,000 = 2,77,77,777 characters Sources: TTS quickstart: billing, limits and formats and the Frequency price list.
Worked example
We priced ten lakh characters, and one lakh words.
Both fit on Pay as you go, as long as 5 requests at a time is fast enough for you.
- 10,00,000 characters
- 10,00,000 characters × ₹1.80 ÷ 1,000 = ₹1,800
- 1,00,000 words
- 1,00,000 words × 6 = 6,00,000 characters × ₹1.80 ÷ 1,000 = ₹1,080
Questions
Questions people ask about speech pricing.
How is text to speech billed?
₹1.80 per 1,000 characters, from a prepaid wallet. Each request is rounded up to the paisa, and you only pay for finished audio.
How many characters is a word?
It depends on the language and the script. We start at 6, a rough figure for English with its spaces, so change it to match your text. The API reports the characters billed for each request in the X-Chars-Billed header.
What does the Business plan add?
More requests at once: 25 instead of 5, for a ₹50,000 monthly commitment. The rate per character doesn’t change. Monthly commitments are credited to your wallet. Unused credit never expires.
Does the audio format change the price?
No. WAV, raw PCM and the 8 kHz phone formats all cost the same, at any sample rate.
Do these prices include GST?
No. All prices exclude GST.
